Candace Snapp - Physical Education, Health, Theater, and Electives
My name is Candace Snapp and I'm very excited to be a new addition to Butte Falls Charter School! I grew up in a tiny Southern Illinois town that's very similar to Butte Falls---except I was surrounded by corn fields instead of beautiful mountains. I attended school in a larger town with about 1100 students. As a Senior in High School, I was on the Yearbook Staff, the President of my Class, and a member of the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, School Band, School Choir, Speech and Drama Team, Chess Club, Tennis Club, and Thespian Club (I had to dig out my old yearbook for that info!). I attended Southern Illinois University on a Theater Scholarship and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education, with Minors in Theater and Radio/TV Production.
Upon graduation, I received my license to teach in public schools. However, I still had a passion for live performance, so I immediately moved to Chicago to study Improv Comedy and perform weekly at Second City, iO, and CIC. While gaining over 15-years experience as a professional actor, standup comedian, voice over talent, and TV/Film writer, producer, and director, I opted to work in the corporate world instead of the school system because I found my performing schedule didn't mesh well with a teaching schedule.
I've always been very interested in Health and Fitness. I'm a National Academy of Sports Medicine Personal Trainer for clients with very different abilities, ages, and goals. Since 2004, I've helped train individuals for marathons, military physical fitness tests, body-building competitions, weight loss, weight gain, sports performance improvement, and more! I've also been a Group Exercise Instructor for 20-years! My favorite classes to teach are Zumba, Boot Camp, and Step. Over the past 16 years, I've earned a living as a Worksite Fitness Director, teaching work/life balance to employees of corporations while providing them opportunities for group exercise, one-on-one training, and stress reduction while at the workplace.
My husband and I have always loved Oregon and when we were presented with the opportunity to move to this beautiful area, we immediately packed up and drove across the country! Although it's been several years since I worked in a school classroom, I'm thrilled to be working with teenagers again! I'm also very excited to learn from the current BFCS staff, connect with students, and use my humor and performing abilities to make class time fun. I'm working hard to develop skills-based and engaging curriculum for PE, Health Education, Theater, and Junior Seminar---with a hope that students will leave my classes with life-long skills to "carry in their back pocket" as teenagers and beyond.
