BFCS is Hardwired to High Tech and Higher Ed
“While we teach, we learn,” said the Roman philosopher Seneca.
That philosophy is on display in Butte Falls Charter School Math classes taught by Shayna Brown. Her students teach math concepts to their fellow students with the help of classroom iPads and SmartBoards. You’ll find iPads in Science classrooms too. “We use iPads in every class,” says Brown.
Tech tools are popping up in classrooms across BFCS. There are Chromebooks in Social Studies classes as well as grades 1-4 classrooms in the elementary building. “These devices are used everyday in these classrooms,” says BFCS Technology Coordinator Catherine Cogdill. There’s also equipment to expand the robotics programs in both the elementary and the high school buildings. And new, upscale computers help students do computer assisted design (CAD) and drive the school’s new 3D printer.
For students who are ready to do college-level studies while still attending high school, Butte Falls Charter Schools offers college credit classes in conjunction with Rogue Community College and Southern Oregon University. There’s even free student transportation to RCC.
